RESULTS
Since
our founding in 1999, Withbroe Development Consulting has raised millions
of dollars from diverse sources in partnership with nonprofit staff and
volunteer leaders. Here are some snapshots of our successes:
A
community-based nonprofit that prepares, packages and delivers nutritious
meals to 1,300 people with life-challenging illnesses throughout the
Washington metropolitan area.
- Challenges: Funding
from foundations and corporations in decline. Inconsistent processes
for developing and reporting project expense budge4ts and service
data.
- Services
Provided: Identified new prospective funders. Developed
strategies to approach them and to increase support from lapsed
and current funders. Wrote proposals and reports. Collaborated
with CFO and senior program staff to develop project budgets and
systems for tracking program data.
- Results: Over
$530,000, raised from national and local foundations and corporations.
Tracking systems developed an implemented organization-wide.
"You
came to Food & Friends at a very difficult time and took up your
work with good will, enthusiasm and skill. It was a personal pleasure
to work with you and I hope we will have the opportunity to do so again." --
Craig Shniderman, Executive Director

One of the oldest and largest nonprofit
hospice providers in the United States. Provides quality end-of-life care
to over 5,000 patients and their families each year. Researches best practices
and educated the public and policy makers about end-of-life issues.

relations managed by staff who turned over frequently, resulting in
flat lined revenue. Legislation for Federal earmark passed but inadequate
internal capability to prepare application to secure funding.

status and potential of foundation and corporate funding. Crafted new
project proposals and budgets in collaboration with senior staff leaders.
Developed strategies for renewing relationships and pursuing new funders.

including $794,000 Federal earmark.
“Just wanted to thank you for
the wonderful job you did with the Grants Assessment and for filling
in as our Grants officer over the summer. The consensus from the staff
here is unanimous – your professionalism, intelligence and diligence
were much appreciated. Thanks to your work we are on a steadier path
as we work to rebuild our Foundation program.” -- Deborah
Peeples, CFRE, Vice President for Development (former)
National nonprofit that increases the organizational
effectiveness of local, state and regional organizations working on environmental
issues and for environmental justice.
- Challenge: Changing trends in environmental
grantmaking threatened to reduce funding for ESC, which depends upon
foundations for 90% of its revenue. Staff overwhelmed by logistics
of tracking restricted grants.
- Services Provided: Researched new
prospects. Developed strategies for approaching current and prospective
funders. Wrote proposals and reports. Refined internal systems for
tracking and managing grants.
- Results: Raised $750,000 from national
foundations and corporations.

low-income people living in a depressed Southwest Baltimore neighborhood.
- Challenge: Programs operating at
capacity. Strategic plan to expand facility but inadequate internal
capacity to launch and manage a comprehensive campaign.
- Services Provided: In association
with McConnell Consulting Group, conducted feasibility/planning study;
organized volunteer leaders, trained staff and volunteers to solicit;
identified potential donors; developed strategies for cultivation and
solicitation, and wrote case statement, proposals and other collateral.

individuals, foundations, corporations and public sources ($473,000
above goal), enabling organization to renovate and expand facility,

Among the largest fundraising conferences
in North America, co-hosted by the Association of Fundraising Professionals,
Washington DC Metro Area Chapter, and the Direct Marketing Association
of Washington.
- Challenge: Create and implement
new joint conference using volunteers from both organizations to provide
outstanding educational opportunity and generate revenue to support
other activities and programs.
- Services Provided (pro bono): As
Conference Co-Chair for 2006 and 2007, led 75-member volunteer committee
to recruit over 100 speakers, secure sponsorships, implement national
multi-channel marketing effort, and guide meetings management staff
in handling logistics.
- Results: First conference attracted
over 1,100 people and raised $150,000 net revenue for the two organizations
-- triple AFP/DC's income from its previous conference. Second conference
took place July 8-10, 2007, attracting 1,300 people.
"Thanks for pulling off a magnificent
conference. Truly one of the best I have ever been to and I think that's
a testament to whoever first thought of combining the DMAW and AFP/DC
event, in addition to the attentive leadership that the two of you brought
to bear on a herd of talented, independent folks. It's not easy blazing
a new trail and a standard has now been set for future conferences to
live up to." -- Lane Brooks, former President, AFP/DC
